I can see the sea, rolling hills and sunrise Sandra, great abstract full of colour.

I never really know what to say about abstracts Sandra as i dont really understand them, as you possibly remember from a thread on the forum. I like shapes and colours and this ticks boxes plus if a painting makes me "react" then it works. I reacted.

Thank-you Carole. The starting point for this was a vague idea of landscape, although it developed a mind of its own as I painted it.

Thank-you Sylvia, I am encouraged that it did make you react. One definition I've come across is that abstracts are about colours and forms. I don't really understand them very much either, I either react or I don't. I did intend to get closer to abstract type landscape but the painting changed as it went along!

I either like them immediately or I don't, and if someone has to explain their work then I've lost interest. I liked this one... like Carole I saw a rolling landscape which made me happy - so well done Sandra and keep them coming.

Yes all about colours shapes and feeling a lovely work Sandra

Alan, Dennis, thank-you very much. The positive comments so far are encouraging me to keep them coming, I was a bit unsure at first.

I liked this as soon as I caught sight of it on the page, because of the colours and the shapes.

Thank-you very much Marjorie.

I love the colours, I too wonder about abstract sometimes, I wouldn't know where to begin and what I was really painting about so I'll give abstract a miss but I can see Hills in this one, 😀

I like when an abstract has just enough reality in it that you look at it and try to make something of it... the texture used in the green made me think of trees and the rolling rhythm of the blue at the base made me think of waves...when water is hit by a sun it can go red as in the centre but after this the geometric shapes are almost like windows but don't bring as much to mind.

Love the colours and the flowing shapes. Cliff tops and sea comes to mind. There’s a place in North Devon which I’ve painted often, now you’ve given me another idea, Sandra.

Looks great and lots of fun , that's the beauty of abstract it goes where it goes , this went well

There is much one could say Sandra, but it is best left to your own unfolding experience with your art.

Really like this abstract, Sandra, evocative of rolling hills. Lovely bold shapes and colours, especially the blue against the orange.

Abstracts are not my 'thing' Sandra but there are some lovely colours here.

Thank-you all for your kind comments, really appreciated. Ellen, I shall watch out for your North Devon painting.

Sun, sea and grassy cliff tops, it speaks landscape to me Sandra. That burnt orange colour really centres your view, then explodes to the periphery! Fab.

Thank-you for your lovely comment Fiona. I started out with an idea of landscape so am interested to see it has been interpreted that way.

I like this, I can see a frog just below his Lilly pad, hills in the background, wonderful job my imagination working overtime,☺️

Thank-you very much Lesley. Do tell me though, which is the frog?

The yellow shape is an eye, between the orange, shapes forms a mouth. And the other eye is green, hes falling in the water. It's the way my imagination works. I really like this.

While I can't really see the frog Lesley I do appeciate your positive comments.

Abstract in acrylic on canvas 16x12 inches. I intend to explore abstracts again, trying out different things, hence the series title.

About the Artist
Sandra Kennedy

I became hooked on painting when I joined an evening class on painting "Abstracts in Acrylic" some years ago. Now retired, I was painting fairly regularly until the last couple of years when I've had a "creative drought". This year I'm getting back into painting, concentrating on abstract.
