I had been missing an Avril 'rust' painting and here it is! You have conjured up a wonderful picture in my mind with your description of where you saw your subject and what you were doing. The strong shadows also suggest bright sunlight so I guess it was a lovely day too - very jealous of you. This is another of your wonderful detailed and textured paintings that are so special. You manage to convey all the detail but the painting is unfussy with a looose feel. Superb!

Well you've certainly captured the weight in these 'weights', the picture almost has an abstract feel to it - love it!!

Thanks Thea and Debs for your lovely comments. Is it unfussy?! I feared as I worked on it that I was doing too much detail.

Really good Avril , you have really captured the subject.

Definitely not fussy, Avril. You can have a lot of detail in a painting, but if you do it in such a way that the colours are harmonious and the composition flows, then it will never appear too busy or fussy. It is when these elements are wrong that the whole thing goes pear shaped in my opinion. Your paintings are always the epitome of harmony to me because you are so good at spotting exactly the right subject and your feeling for colour makes them sing.

I agree with the above comments. Another beautiful painting Avril

Good drawing great rust painting and shadows. Always brilliant Avril.

Happy to see you back, Avril. I missed your wonderful paintings! This is again amazing, I love it!

A real feel of bright sunlight in this Avril and as always very convincing rust. Were the langoustines good?

Always such generous comments which I REALLY appreciate. Thanks. And yes Val, the langoustines with home made mayonaise were delicious.....! They came directly off one of boats.

Fabulous Avril.... agree with all the above.

Super strong light, and such lovely use of colour. Marvellous!

Very nearly missed this one! Thea's first comment has expressed my feelings about this painting. You've managed to conjure up a lovely image of a sunny day in Brittany buying fresh langoustines! How you've managed to do this with a painting of heavy metal is a mystery to me but it works so very well. Perhaps it's the colour and the sunlight and shadows! It's very clever of you and extremely effective. Very well done!

Thank you Fiona, Lesley and Louise - reading your lovely comments is a great start to the day.

Fabulous color, light and artistry, as usual, Avril! I love your interpretation of rust and peeling paint - you make them look so appealing!

Beautifully captured Avril. I never seem to think to paint something so close up but you prove what great subjects this sort of thing can make.

Super Avril!! I like!! bravo for this harmony of colours!!

Saw these trawler "weights" on the quayside at Loctudy in Brittany when we went to buy fresh langoustines (scampi). 40 x 30 cms on Saunders Waterford CP.
