You have many circles in this design,and they are all on the same plane. If you can use lines or other method to create a three dimension illusion, to enable the lizard to jump out of the plane. You can call me Yu Ping or Ping. Good luck for this painting. It has nice design and colour.

Hi Yu Ping, Yes, that sounds like a good idea, I agree it needs something to lift it. I will have a good think about that. I wonder, for example, if I made the shadows into parallel lines, as if they were created by a venetian blind.

Seeings it is inspired by mediterranean themes why not use terracottas, yellows and oranges in the bacground too - mediterranean colours but also contrasting opposites to the blues and greys used here. I would experiment on a new painting and leave this one as it is. It is quite nice in itself in its use of complimentary colours and it would be good to compare the final results as to which techniques / colour schemes / designs, etc that you prefer. Jx

Thank you for your comments Jean (version two was similar, but better I think). I will try your colour suggestions, but in pastels I think, because I have just spent an awful (too much) amount of time on a similar, stylised-plate theme that I have put on the site as 'Carnival'. It was very laborious to do all the detail.
