This has a real period feel to it, and the retro scarf background is very in keeping. I wonder how you'd frame this ... it would require something bold but yet light in tone... I rather see this on my wall....

I do like this, Anni...very striking retro image, love your style. good luck with the Takapuna November exhibition.

Hi Anni~ another stunning addition to your impressive gallery...one to read a lot into..love it.

I adore Modigliani and I love your picture, well done.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to view this and comment. It makes me very happy. Robert, she does look like she is from another era doesn't she? Interesting what you say about if it was framed. I might write a new blog entry this weekend, witha few recipes of course, I'll fiddle around with this painting and pop it in a frame, so you can see what it would look like. Hey Robert, you can always buy a print of this from www.redbubble.com if you are interested? Just put my first name anni in and my art will come up. It can also be bought as a small greetings card and framed. Thanks for your comment. ~ Anni Hi Ruth, You know this is the first painting I've done in one complete sitting. I normally have breaks and work on a painting over several days or a couple of weeks. Yesterday afternoon I just sat down, put the radio play on and got stuck in. Nice to use larger brushes for a change and loosen up a bit. I think the sadness I felt when I had my late mother's scarf came out in her face. I bought the scarf back from England when I visited my dad after my mum died 9 years ago. Poor dad was so devoted they had been married for 61 years that he followed soon after her. My mother ws an artist and I am sure she would have smiled at me painting her old chiffon scarf. ~ Anni

Hi Phil, Thanks for viewing this, what have you been up to artistically? The thing I love about art is that there are so many possibilities open to one. We can play around with colour, paint in different styles, used mixed media, paint large or small, and the subject matter is endless...only limited by our imagination. ~ Anni Hello Margaret, Yes I love Modigliani. What a short life he had and then his pregnant lover so grief stricken she threw herself out of an apartment window. A film was made of his life, I must try and get hold of a copy. It isn't the kind of DVD that the local video store stock. I so admire his use of colour, his flesh tones are wonderful and the blues are heavenly. I noticed when I went to have a blood test the otherday at the hospital they have a print of his up on the wall, Girl In a Blue Dress. ~ Anni

Hi Anni, she is great. A different subject again and handled so individually. How did you get on with exhibiting your super birds? Your background swirls I think are great and agree with everyones comments.

Hi Angela, My birds are still up in Auckland, no sales for me yet unfortunately. I don't know if my art is that fashionable to people. Seems the popular subjects are flowers and stones at the moment here in New Zealand. Guess they will all come back, so I'll pop them in somewhere else. Anyway I paint what I enjoy painting, not painting to the market. This was fun yesterday and made a change. What are you painting at the mo? ~ Anni :)

I love this change Anni. Very prim face, typical of the time. I like you fabric patterns too.

Hi Anni, I was watching an interesting tv programme the other night. It was about a UK company I think they were called Art sales or somthing similar, Anyway, they are the largest selling print house in Europe and they were discussing which of the images - which ran into millions of sales of a single print- and the favourite with the public was a photo of a lake view at sunrise. Very ordinary, nice but I thought nothing really special or individual. It seems that buyers for their homes are very nostalgic and traditional in general. I have to say I must be the odd one out because I always go for the odd thing or unusual. I loved your birds and your strong style and colours i am sure they will find a nice home. I have just finished another "big" pastel this time of Canada Geese, I used acrylic ink = turquoise and crimson as a base and built up on that. They are certainly colourful. Not at all like the real Geese but still i have enjoyed doing them. I have them in a frame or I would post so you could have a look see. if i try and photo them now the glass will ruin it. Anyway,, thanks for your interest and do keep posting.

Hi Carole, Yes she is a little miss prim I agree...it is the mouth I think. I have been paintingthe thirf and last in this hat series today, should be up soon. Thanks so much ~ Anni :) Hello Angela, Yup a lot of buyers play safe and conservative agree. Well everyone to their own. Personally if I want that kind of thing I might take a photo. I paint what I enjoy painting, sometimes it works out well other times not so well. It is good to experiment and try different subjects, keeps your work fresh. Your Canada Geese sound stunning, they are beautiful birds, lovely shape. It is quite a treat having these little chats with people like yourself. Fond regards ~ Anni :)

Acrylic on canvas Size: 40 by 30 cm I completed this this afternoon while I was listening to a PD James radio play. I used a limited palette of Napthol Crimson, Permanent Sap Green and Titanium White. Shades of Modigilani crept into this one, she has quite a sad expression. The background was inspired by an old retro chiffon scarf of my mothers,
