I could settle for just working in charcoal, carbon pencil, ink, and conté crayon - the two media do coalesce in the middle, by which I mean that drawing becomes painting, and in many ways is more satisfying. And it's a damn' sight cheaper! If you would look up Andrew Barrowman on YouTube, you'll find quite a few drawings/paintings in these media - well worth a look, and should be right up your street.

Not sure if this is a drawing or a painting. I was lucky enough to get a charcoal and graphite art set for Christmas. So I tried it out. I did several washes with liquid charcoal and then used Nitram charcoal and chalk over the top.
