Love the poppies, the village beyond, but most of all I'm drawn to those sharply drawn grasses at front right, which connect one side of the painting to the other. I wonder if you painted that sky by reversing the paper, and introducing the sky-blue at the horizon, letting if flow upwards? Perhaps that's your secret... works VERY well. A completely cheering painting, makes you feel better just to look at it.

A lovely bright, light, summery painting...a really feel good scene.

Thanks for your lovely comments, and yes you've sussed it Robert! I always had trouble painting slies until I discovered this technique and found that it rarely failed - so I use it nearly every time - the advantage being it never creates the same sky twice

A lovely composition Angela with the poppies so large in the foreground. Works very well.

Sometimes something just cries out to be painted, and in late April the poppies start appearing on the edge of the lanes in this area of France. This was a little later in the year and one of my first paintings using White Nights colours - a revelation - I use nothing else now. This picture has become the cover illustration for a book of local scenes just published through Lulu.com.
