'Gastof the Artist'

Comments

How interesting Angela, good one.

Thankyou Heather, I wrote this story in 1996 and started illustrations but over the years have painted a few illustrations on watercolour pad but never progressed any further in publishing the manuscript. It's one of those stories that got left in the folio! Recently I was invited to exhibit some of these pictures and was awarded a prize for two of these illustrations! Might work on the story and more illustrations in the new year!

I like the colours you've used - and the story behind the painting.

Why thankyou Bobbie , it was a while ago I painted this picture but something still ebbs and flows in my heart for this Artist...it was a friend once I knew but he passed away in 2000 and the illustrations came to a close..maybe I need to return and see if I can paint some more about Gastof?

Gastof was once a fisherman who lived on an island near the Ette de Berre lagoon ,off the coast of Marseilles. He started painting in his stone cottage shortly after he lost his family in a shipwreck. It is a painting from a story about 'loss and grief',and how Art transformed his life while recovering from a tragedy.
