Obviously, your painting of St Lawrence is my favourite of this collection, because it's so near to me (and yes, you're right, we have a lot of subjects to paint round here) but, but for that I think it would just be this one - though it has a lot with which to compete. I am particularly struck by your control in this, the very convincing foreground and the expert way you've captured the distance. I assume this is a fairly large painting? It must be spectacular in the flesh.

hi Robert, yes off the top of my head I think it's about 1 x 1.5 m. MDF board primed with a couple of layers of gesso. I think I will have to buy an electric mitre and start framing my paintings myself, it's just way too expensive otherwise. I will check on the forums to see if anyone has a solution to the framing problem...

An imaginary one using much more detail, as I was trying to recreate a bygone age here, using photos as reference. I worked over it several times, often allowing it all to dry in between, which is not my preferred method. It was quite constricting to stay faithful to the photos but I had more fun with the impasto in the foreground.
