Hi Rachel, thank you :-) I think its just practice with fur and knowing what your medium can achieve. With pastel on velour I know that the velour will take alot of layers of colour so I try to look beneath the fur and work from dark to light. It always feels a bit odd almost doing colours that you can't really see but if you work from underneath the fur, when you put in those lovely light colours for the top layer of the hair it is soooo satisfying :-) Most important is getting the direction of the fur correct and looking at shapes the fur makes.
