Thank you, both. ~ Gudrun - I seem drawn to the dramatic :-) ~ Ros - I was lucky with the weather. And Bradgate exceeded my recollection in terms of potential subjects.

Living in Leicestershire I know the park well and this is great rendition so well painted.

I like - just the sort of thing I'd paint myself (why didn't I?)..... You and have a similar pull towards drama in landscape, I think.

Michael - I grew up in Leicestershire (Melton Mowbray, to be specific) and Bradgate was one of my favourite places to go as a child. I took my own children there for the first time last week, and they loved it too. ~ Robert - I don't know why you didn't; perhaps you haven't had the pleasure of visiting Bradgate?

Oil on canvas, 70 x 50 cm. ~ From a pair of photographs taken on Tuesday. ~ Would you belive that this is only a few miles from Leicester City Centre? ~ I was quite struck by the fantastic shape of a certain tree on the rocky ridge that leads out into Bradgate Park from the Newtown Linford entrance. Combined with the abundant rocks, the orange-yellows of the February vegetation and the cloudless blue sky, I think it could be the wilderness setting for a creepy tale of witches, wights and wolves. ~ http://amanda-bates-artist.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/rocky-outcrop-twisty-tree.html
