Easy .. i love the composition and the subject.. Poppies are often painted myself included but what you have succeded in which i failed at, is portraying the pioneering spirit of the flower it grows where ever it can. It has a slightly untidy appearance and is so suited to the backdrop of the logs, i can feel the differance between the shiny smooth petals and the grainy wood. Complete success in my opinion.

Thank you, Helen. I've painted poppies before and the subject is a popular one. This backdrop is a new sub-theme (I used a wheatfield, with a local hill behind that before), but, like you, I admire the "pioneering spirit", so it's nice to show it in different environments.

Works well for me. It's a close up as opposed to your ususal lanscapes with lots of light and space, which is probably why you were feeling a bit unsure.

Love the colours in this beautiful red against a marvellously painted wood pile, nothing wrong with the composition its perfect

There were poppies in front of the big stack of logs on the top of the hill. They just weren't these ones. The wind was blowing the log stack poppies around, and - to be honest - the poppy season was nearly over, so I used some poppies from another photograph. The scruffy greenery is sticky buds, more properly known as cleavers. Do, please tell me what you think of this image - I 'm still not sure about the subject or the composition. The photograph was taken under artificial light, so it's no doubt missing some subtleties. Oil on box canvas (edges are plain Payne's Grey acrylic), 40 x 40 cm
