Interesting warm & cool variations on your theme. I like the ochre/umber version rather more & I wonder if the particular yellow, and perhaps especially "violet" used might make a big difference?

Thank you, Bill. Re. the yellow/violet version, I found the Cadmium Hue in my watercolour box a little harsh, so I moved along one towards warm... The violet is Artists' Winsor Violet, newly installed to replace the original used-it-all-up-painting-irises-in-the-80s nondescript Cotman Violet. Curiously, when buying replacement pans 10 years or so ago (BC - before chidren), I bought TWO violets. The other is Artists' Ultramarine Violet. It languishes unopened wit my other random purchases.

The white in my acrylic ochre/umber version of this scene played a very large role. I thought I'd try watercolour, with only the white of the paper, and it is rather different. I did the same scene in another 2-colour challenge scheme (violet and yellow, cough, gamgoge) just for good measure.
