Blackberry Evening

I have the same trouble Amanda. (See my latest post with similar question to yours!!) On yours I think that perhaps fading the background a little to allow the blackberries to shine forth as it were would be great enhancer. Otherwise I like your little painting. Any advise on mine? I think it's beyond repair!!.

Hmm. You could be right, but washes of white have been attempted and I wasn't happy with the result. I do think that I have fallen foul of the phenomena of warm colours approaching and cool ones receding; the low sun here made everything glow warmly and even lemon yellow is too warm to recede nicely. Perhaps if I try mixing a pale lemon yellow with white... ?

This has caused me trouble. It was a stunning image - walking back home over the playing fields, the setting sun catching the leaves, a single strand of blackberries dangling over the path... I whipped out my camera and snapped it. The photograph was good. But the painting? I had a lot of trouble with the distance between the blackberries and the hedge. And I'm not sure about the composition - maybe there is too much background. Acrylic on canvas, 26 x 20 cm.
