Lovely loose watercolour with light trapped nicely.

Super piece, Alan. Love the varied brushwork and the interaction of the hard and soft edges.

Good way of breaking another "rule" here; they say never have a closed gate in the foreground of your painting, because it acts as a barrier to the eye. But that depends on the gate! And also on what lies beyond. This little rustic gate invites you to push it open and walk through. If it's a barrier, therefore, it's a negotiable one; and the use of the shadows in this case makes it all the more intimate.
