I think this one has definitely moved forward, Alan. Good expression and good skin tones. I like your bit of background and the splatters which add a sense of looseness. Keep going!

thanks Thea, some things you wrote stick in my mind ,Don't over paint the hair ,and if possible don't let it take over from the model,, but the one thing that Charles says// I remember well ,don't let any dark's look like holes..I cant say I will stay with doing portraits ,I don't want to leave my comfort zone to much,, but it is a handy exercise.and I enjoyed it .sparked of by you Thea . you never know..where my art journey will take me , I may be back on oils next week/ Hee hee, lol Alan

ps/ and going back to my drawing days , has improved it no end .especially keeping my pencil on the drawing and coming across from the eyes outlines only lovely jubbley

What a very versatile artist you are Alan, so different from your landscapes but exceedingly good as Mr Kipling would say.

Works so well - like you I also like to try out something new in terms of subject matter and even style but can't see that I will ever have a go at portraits.

I rather like this one. Great colours, in my humble opinion.

thanks for your comments .it,s nice to get them, good or bad,, it shows we are still alive and kicking and I have few friends?? left in this mad art world,,, e , ,I do think sticking with one subject in art,, can be so restrictive ,just doing portraits alone can be boring there are so few old Indians wearing feathers knocking about in Wigan ,and even old gypsy caravans are hard to find ,. how many faces can I do before you become a boring old fart, nice to have ago now and again though.cheers all .my son says dad you go to far with what you say sometimes .but then again what dose it matter at your age no one takes a gods bit of notice of you.

A good portrait, you definitely have great potential for a portrait artist too.

Love the freedom and the colours of this. Every now and again I venture out of my comfort zone too... but not usually with this much success!

to day I decided to change my way of painting a portrait, the one put on this morning was not what I wanted to achieve ,I thank you for your wonderful comments you gave..but that was not for me . but this one I like better ,it is done on a piece of cheap white card they use in sewing factories to package a gents shirt . it is a bad paper to use ..but if I can manage to do one i like ,then I can precede with my learning curve and from now on get better thanks to Thea ,
