A very nice piece of work Adele. You've captured the movement, in particular I see it in the sails.

Very nice adele

It's lovely, excellent piece

Did it ram something, bit confused am I. I like the s=drawing and colours.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Did you mean that if it kept going it would ram something Derek? Probably should have said it had arrived and had stopped (whatever the term is) hopefully!! If not I think they might have been in deep trouble. Don't be confused Derek, there is only room for one confused person and that is me! Ha ha

All part of developing yourself as an artist Adele.

I've just been having a hell of a time trying to get boats 'right' Adele. Yours are sitting in the water, unlike mine, and can I ask what you did the finer rigging with?

Hi Fiona. The shadows on the underneath of the boats should be touching the boats as shown in the 2 small ones in the background. The front small boat I've sunk down slightly so that the swell of the water comes up the side. The Endeavour's underside is touching the shadow like the back 2 boats. See if that helps. The rigging was done in pencil and biro with a ruler. Unfortunately I have quite shaky hands and I tried rigger brushes as a lot of boat artists do, but for me my hands were shaking too much. As you can see from the photo, it looks quite effective. Basically whatever works for you. If you use biro, make sure you blot it on kitchen towel and wipe the side of the ruler after each line as biro can "blob" Good luck!

Thanks Carole.

Thanks for that Adele, in the end I used pencil but didn't go mad, just did a few to indicate the idea of rigging. I had already done the reflections etc. I hope you approve if you see it when I post.

Fabulous watercolour, Adele! I find it a difficult medium to handle too.. I'm so pleased you didn't give up.

Thank you Heather. It's not my favourite medium.

About the Artist
Adele Elgood

When I was a young girl my parents had a large mirror which had an etching of a "crinoline lady" on. I would spend hours copying this. In the 1960's when I was at Secondary school, I was told to give up painting and drawing as I was useless and would never be any good. Following these words of…
