Still have work to do on this one but unsure what would be best for background.  Original  photo I took was of the car between other cars in a street and has to be changed.  But I will need to start putting in some relevant reflections before I go much further. What does anyone think?  On grass, on tarmac, or blurred background?  And what colours do you think would make the car stand out?  Leaving the background unpainted isn't  really an option due to bits of splatter! Thanks in advance
Great job so far Steve! I don’t fancy green grass one bit, so I’d probably go for tarmac, perhaps on the bluish side with some interesting shadows from the car. The background is tricky, and this isn’t my sort of subject, but it doesn’t want to be overpowering and too detailed in my opinion!
I would go for a blurry background leaving the car a the focal point s it should be.
A real cracker of a start, what a wonderful painting of a wonderful car.  I don't make paintings like this so I can't help.  I agree with the others... the car's the star, the background musn't interfere.   I'll watch your progress with interest.
I agree with the chaps! Smashing car and a very impressive start. Maybe just a hint of an old style race track for the background? Otherwise something fairly undefined as has been suggested. Are you able to look at it online with different options?
Thanks for suggestions.   Think I'll probably aim for some type of tarmac or gravel in a kind of blurry way with a bit of sky in the distance!  As suggested by Tessa I'll try messing around with it on a computer to see what looks best.
I’m with Tessa, the Cobra’s perfect for a suggestion of racetrack (or pits/paddock?)
Just to say - I agree with the others: I've painted a few cars on commission (mostly Ferrraris) and their natural surrounds seem to suit them best - i.e. tarmac, blurred cars in the background perhaps, but never a field of green.   (And may I say - I'm a devotee of Formula 1, but it WAS hard work!). And I haven't got the damn' paintings now, because I never photographed or catalogued them!  So have lost paintings of two cars, plus a pencil portrait of Enzo Ferrari ..... ALWAYS keep a record!
The complementary to red is green, so a green background will make the car stand out. Why not a country lane with verges and hedges and fields, blurred because of the car's speed, and, of course, it will rest on tarmac. Good luck.
Been doing a bit more on this one.  No driver so can't really have it going at speed!   My attempts at figures and faces usually end in failure so best not attempt to insert at this late stage.  Think I might leave any further work on the car as although not perfect I am often guilty of fiddling with an otherwise reasonable effort and making things worse.  I've  done a very loose and minimal background to leave "the car the star" as Lewis suggested.   Any comments welcomed before I sign it off, post on gallery and then file it away with the others.  I really need to find something to do with all my paintings!!
It’s best to be cautious Steve, I think that this is a good decision, fabulous work on the car, it’s a beauty!
I guess we all have to make choices like that, Steve.  The car is beautifully painted.  Great job.
