Hold up my hand in apology Robert.  .   Yes a striking portrait but a touch of whimsy  and caricature about it ,  possibly exaggerated by the eyes.

Yes, it’s those eyes! They look pure white and if you study any face (not a photograph which may have been digitally enhanced), you’ll see that eyes aren’t white!

Well, if you study any face, you'll see that eyes aren't so big, but then Margaret Keane's works came along...
It's more the ultra-bright white than the size - of course, you can exaggerate anything you want to, and you HAVE achieved a striking image: we can't know what you chose to do, only comment on what you've done (if asked, of course) - the snag with exaggeration is that a portrait can just cross over the line to the point at which it becomes a cartoon; or, you can take it that much farther, and produce a Picasso-like image (and his income, if you're lucky...); but there's nothing wrong with cartoons, if that's what you want to do; the only problem would arise if that is not what you wanted to do.  If you're seeking verisimilitude, insofar as any of us can achieve it, your painting would need further refinement: but if you've achieved what you set out to achieve, well - you're the one to please!   By the way - I DO like it.
do you have a specific reason for not putting it there? .

Well, I read through the Terms & Conditions of the website. It says this: "Any material you upload to our Site will be considered non-confidential and non-proprietary, and we have the right to use, copy, distribute and disclose to third parties any such material for any purpose. We also have the right to disclose your identity to any third party who is claiming that any material posted or uploaded by you to our Site constitutes a violation of their intellectual property rights, or of their right to privacy."
Lucian I’m a bit confused, why should it be different putting  your paintings on the forum rather than the gallery , as they are both subject to the same Terms and Conditions. I ask out of nothing other than curiosity

The paragraph I quoted from the Terms & Conditions mentions only materials that are uploaded to the site. By posting threads on the forums, I am not uploading any materials to the site. I am merely hotlinking them from somewhere else (in this case, from my personal blog). I could not find any mention prohibiting this in the site's rules. If there is such a rule that prevents hotlinking images and I missed it, please accept my apologies. In case any such rule exists, I will comply and remove the image.
I not a technical person, I though that when you put a painting on a site that is uploading it. As to rules about hotlinking I would not know , it’s a term I have never heard of nor really need to know about. Thank you for the explanation.
Lucian I initially suggested very politely , that you put your image on the sites gallery where  it would   receive more notice and possible comment's. This is how this site works.    Nowt to do with hot-linking . It was meant kindly not to create confusion  and disharmony.  Tis up to you ,do as you wish.

Absolutely, you either put your paintings on the gallery or you don’t, but I’m failing to see what the issue is here. - All this technical jargon and quoting terms & conditions is unnecessary and frankly confusing.  I can’t see any logical reason why you wouldn’t want to, I’ve got well over 500 paintings and drawings on there… personally I don’t care one way or the other, it’s your choice, it’s not mandatory!
If you're concerned about jeopardizing your ownership of the copyright on your work, worry not: the work remains your own, and is no more at risk of appropriation by anyone else than if you post it on the forum.  Relax, Lucian. your copyright is safe.
Not sure if you're still following this thread, but when asking for critique, it's useful to say why - anatomy, composition, lighting etc. As artists, we will all have a different point of view in what direction we think you should go. To me, the painting looks like you just blocked it in, and stopped. Fine if that's where you wanted to stop. Now do you want it realistic, if so, how realistic, photo realistic, loosely painted etc? The skin tones, to me, are fairly lifeless; skin is a myriad of colours, not just a shade of brown. You could try a hint of yellow on the top third, and blue on the bottom, red in the middle - don't overdo it unless you want to go wild, which is always another option. Yes, I agree with the comments about the whites of eyes, but more because there is no form there; you've put some in the rest of the face - eyes are balls where you only see part of the ball. Good luck and please update.
I think this thread became redundant Jules.
