Glad we resolved that one! Those are two lovely paintings - I always wonder when seeing a JMW Turner watercolour if the colours we see today are much like those he laid down: do you think he used vermillion for the red? (And was it an oil sketch, rather than watercolour - may well be.)
The Seago oil will still be true to its original conception, and I love it: the use of a strong red, probably Cadmium, in the lower right of the canvas picks up the warmth of the rainbow - which is indicated by a broad sweep of the brush and probably not much tickled about with.
It suddenly occurs to me that - so far as I remember - in 50 years or more of painting I've never yet tackled a rainbow ... now there's a project for the jaded, eh?
