I have been asked by friends who live in France to do a sketchy pic of their grandchildren....I hate saying no to people and won't do commissions . I'm not in that category they know I do sketchy stuff. BUT my daffy eyes are not improving ,I have AMD in both eyes so stuff moves around and detail is hard cone by. I have a pair of silly specs courtesy of the Welsh assembly that help with glare when I walk Sam. They are becoming a trade mark. I literally cannot see stuff outside like horses , cars , tractors until they are very close.....life is interesting.
So it's with trepidation I'm doing something for someone else....it's taking ages .

Sylvia I think your doing a great job despite the vast disadvantage your having to live with . I know that your having to make a lot of changes and sacrifices but I do know that you won’t give up and will find ways of doing things. Just keep at it no matter how long it takes as I know your will get satisfaction from doing the painting .

Such thoughtful comments thankyou. I'm not looking for sympathy I'm not a whinger but it's an explanation.. I'm interested in where it will go.....I know I have become very clumsy. .Also has anyone else got sight problems? Maybe we could start a blind persons art group....joke...honest.
I know Monet, Degas had sight problems and continued to paint beautifully ...on the plus side it's a good excuse for bad spelling. Eye eye !

It is bound to take you longer than it once did, but you've still "got it" - don't worry about that. I know what a challenge it is to paint or draw for someone else to whom you're very attached; with a client, you've got a relatively simple contractual relationship, you deliver or you don't, and if you don't you can probably have another crack at it. Besides which, they won't say "Oh lovely" if they really don't mean it; whereas if you're doing it for someone close to you, they just might, out of a misguided sense of kindness. And you'll always think they're just saying that, to be nice!
So have an objective judgement: I'd be very pleased with that, if I were the person for whom you're creating it.
I have eyesight problems too, after two operations: one very serious, the other a cataract removal - in the same eye. So now, I'm sometimes joined by a large, strawberry shaped black blob in that eye: which doesn't help. Normally though, it lurks at the back of the eye where I don't notice, just to pop up again every now and then to show me it's still there. This is nothing like AMD, especially in both eyes: very elderly relatives of mine (yes, a good 15 years older than you: prehistoric, they were!) had AMD - and got very cross with it; my aunt's once beautiful handwriting deteriorated as a result - I think that annoyed her more than almost anything else.
But you're not letting it beat you - and you are in good company; not just Degas, but Renoir and many others. That's the trouble with those people who tell us what a beautiful thing Creation is, especially in regard to the human body (mine was never beautiful...): good design, I tell them, incorporates functionality - and our bodies can go wrong in so many disastrous ways that one cannot but think a bit more attention on the drawing board would have been wise.... tell that to the Vicar next time you see them; or better still, the Jehovah's Witnesses - Vicars are normally pretty well educated and can spring back at you with an answer: whereas JWs aren't, and can't.
How I digress. But it is part of my charm.

Me and Vicars don't get on. The last one who crossed me was a hospital chaplain who dared call Bill "elderly" which intimated that I was also elderly. So I told him in very certain terms that I was not elderly....older ,yes, but not bloody elderly. All of this in a busy hospital corridor.... I also digress. My little drawing if it turns out anything at all, will be given as a pressie and if they bung it down the loo or light a fire with it I will never know as they are quite along way from me. I might ask for them to make a donation to Sams animal rescue centre. Yes I see strawberries as well. I also see walls....
JHW don't come here we are a tad remote. Plus Sam would see them off.
