I did a couple of standard portrait copies of John Singer Sargent's "Rosina" some time back but needing a new ongoing challenge decided to do a "different" version. This first drawing is just to make sure all is proportionally where it should be, the rest..?Que Sera. (-: Sorry for the double post but I don't know how to delete one?

Gone some distance with this, but ways to go yet. Still not sure how it will end up but it's keeping me occupied. Here's phase two:
I don't know the painting, so no idea how close you're getting, but I do notice one thing, and it so often happens to me - I start with the fundamental drawing (bearing in mind here I'm not primarily a portraitist!) then start to add paint - and the basics change: in this case, you've opened Rosina's mouth - the mouth nearly always being the real key to a likeness, more so than almost any other feature, that's where the painting can creep away from you.   A good many have crept away from me.....
Thanks for the reply Robert, but like I said, there's way to go yet, so quite a bit to finish. I too am not the best at portraits.
You’ve got a good shape to her face Jim, I would say just the mouth needs a bit of work. I remember when quite a few of us tried a portrait of her - it was fun.
Portraits are never easy, continual assessing and observing until you feel you have a fair likeness. Good luck with it Jim.
Thanks Marjorie and Denise. I've moved it on a little, but probably won't like it. I rarely do like my own portraits. (-:
I managed to find one of my previous attempts of Rosina done seven years ago. How time flies. This is it.
I wonder how many of Rosina there were - mine, yours Jim. Tim Holmes, Cesare…a few more I’m sure.
Yes indeed Marjorie and I'm not sure what prompted me to do another? I can't match the portrait skills of the likes of yourself and Timothy, but I do enjoy the freedom of impressionism of doing versions.
I think that's about it finished now, or at least as far as I want to go. Not sure I've achieved much but my fingers aren't what they used to be.
A good ending Jim.
