On a trip to Edinburgh Zoo last month my husband managed to get some great photos of the recent additions to the zoo, the giraffes. Below is both the original photo, and my progress so far on the painting.
Looking good Carrie , can’t wait to see the finished painting.
Thank you Dixie.  I think I should have started with the giraffe in the background, but I couldn't help but paint the biggest one first.
You are doing a good job Carrie.
Thank you Denise. One more giraffe done :)
We all work so differently it’s interesting to see other people’s approach. ,in this instance Carrie I woukd have worked them more or less at the same time .  Lovely colourful work.
Hi Sylvia,  thank you for your lovely comment.  In this instance I felt that by doing each giraffe separately I could add in slight variations to the colours that I was mixing to help them all stand on their own individually.  Although I do tend to complete a painting a section at a time, rather than working on the piece as a whole, which I think sometimes can make it feel a little fragmented but it just seems to be how I paint, rather than a conscious decision :)
We all work quite differently.  It always amazes me if several artists sit in front of the same subject how many variations result.  You do what is good for you..it works .
It would be lovely to see other people‘s takes on this photo. Happy for anyone to use if they are interested. Carrie x
I had accidently managed to post the unfinished painting of my giraffes to the Gallery and only just noticed. Finished version below
I saw the finished version Carrie.
Did you? Oh something must be wrong with mine as the giraffe on the left doesn’t have any of the spots on its face or shadowing in the one I can see. How strange, but thank you for confirming Sylvia :)
