I haven’t done a WIP for a while, several reasons though people might be bored of them, my continuing hand problem and the heat , the latter is the most difficult to cope with .
I decided to use a very old faded B/W photo of three men building a boat in a boatyard. A good sixty percent is imaginary, as are the colours , quite a challenge as there are so many lines in the build structure and of course the boats . Bit wobbles in places but in fine with that , I wouldn’t paint if I worried about line looking wobble .
This is my basic sketch , I find having it quite detailed helps but of course it changes as we go along sometimes for aesthetic reasons, plus the occasional use of artistic license.
I then added base colours, yesterday, phew was it hot I had to keep wetting the paper so I could move the paint around.

I always step back and look at the painting as it give you a better idea of how it looks.
