My husband wanted an elephant painting, so being really miserable over the last couple of day's I decided to use one of my new canvases I purchased a few weeks ago and was daunted by the fact its a 20 x 20 ins canvas board!! not done anything this large for ages. but here goes, happy with it so far and have experimented with colours after looking at some images on Pinterest, but this is my own colour palette. Oil on streched canvas board.
Looking good Linda, great choice of palette! Are you going for a loose approach or detailed? I actually like it as it is.....good work.
Hi Fiona, I think I'll keep it loose, don't want to get bogged down with too much detail, happy with colours at the moment, will just elaborate more on some darker shadows and lighter spots. Will leave it for a couple of days and then get back to it.😀
It’s looking really good, and that’s just your base, I like the pallet you are using , to often people only use grey . Looking forward to seeing it develop.
Thanks Paul, yes I didn't want to do grey, my first background colour was more of a ight blue acrylic so it made a good base, also I took Alan's advice about masking all round the edge of the canvas with masking tape to give it a crisp look when it's finished, it will also look like a mount when I finally frame it. 😏
I love it already Linda, beautiful colour palette. Look forward to seeing it develop.
Looks good - well done for avoiding grey.  They are rarely grey, because they cover themselves with dust which is often redish.
I love this, its great to see this painting slowly evolving.  Also have a soft spot for elephants, such beautiful creatures
Thanks Gillian, Linda and Hilary for taking the time to look, my ref. photo had quite a lot of dark grey blue, but I wanted to try to capture that glow that the African Plains get in the evening light if everything goes to plan!!!
Been working on this today, lost some of my original colour, so hopefully I can get some of it back. Narrowed the head down a bit ,it looked too wide and gone in with the palette knife. Think the light has changed today as my photo doesn.t show the painting quite a brightly as it actually is. Going to leave it for the moment and see what it looks like tomorrow with fresh eyes!!
Still like the colours even though you feel you have lost some of the original!  I love it!
I really like the texture you have there.
