Newbi Question About Painting/Pastel/Water color ?? Signed Work possibly St Ives??

Recently found art through my son & Daughter learning about it in school which has made me look closer at pictures than i had ever used to, Now i sometimes buy them when they are reasonable which seems cheap for the work involved i found this one today  in  a second hand shop and i am enjoying it a lot i would love to find out more about it and if it is a nice piece i think reminds me of St Ives possibly and has a difficult to read signature at the base any ideas of artist or medium would help me a great deal i am very new to art please go steady :) thanks Daniel

The signature is Henry G Walker - the painting an attractive Victorian/Edwardian watercolour.  Without looking Henry G up, though I will, I can't at the moment tell you much more.

https://www.saturdaygalleryart.com/henry-george-walker-biography.html Best known for his etchings, it seems.  He lived from 1876 to 1932, and his work is collected.  So, worth a bit; how much depends on many things, but in any event you have a pleasant watercolour by a known artist of no small ability.  Good choice, enjoy it.

I originally thought that this was a hand-coloured etching. It looks to have the tell-tale signs of the indented plate on the paper, although difficult to be sure from a photo. The signature is on the border and written in pencil, exactly what I would expect to see. That doesn’t necessarily detract from any potential value, some hand-coloured etchings are very desirable, obviously depending on the artist!

Excellent! I assumed it to be a hand-coloured etching… pity there’s no price showing! No edition number on this one also, so it’s an open edition as opposed to a limited edition… this has a huge impact on price for obvious reasons!

Thank you very much Clovelly North Devon What a beautiful place indeed 16th century black & White cottages on cobbled streets, The way that pictures are copied is amazing my eyes thought it was real :( I will try and get out my jewellers loop a bit more like with glass maybe that will help...

Yes, you're all right, it is a coloured etching.  Whatever it is, it's a lovely thing to have on your wall; and well done to those who identified it as Clovelly - that's a part of the country I've never visited: and I really ought to!
