Have just come back onto this site, after a down period. One thing that I can't figure out, and is puzzling me, is this "reputational" thing. I see that a number of you have huge well-deserved reputations, others none. I have given "reputation" to some posts that I like, not sure what it does. eg. To test it I gave reputation to one of Robert's posts then refreshed my screen and saw that his number of reputations had jumped by about four or five. I tried with another poster as well, same. Then I gave reputation to a poster who didn't have a reputation number, refreshed my screen but nothing had happened. Tried again, different poster, same result. What do you have to do to get a reputation? I hope this isn't a silly question but I really am quite intrigued, so hope someone won't mind explaining.
Sandra...I suppose it depends what sort of reputation you want...! , I must admit I've never noticed it before now.
Hi in my ‘opinion’ I think reputation points are earned by the amount of times you  post or reply to a post, and are therefore not related to the ‘quality’ of the reply merely the ‘quantity’. But I now wait to be corrected. I have no reputation here as far as I can see, or am concerned. I have made less than 30 forum posts even though I have posted over 700 paintings over the last four years. I suggest you and I reply to as many posts over the next month as we can , that is if you or I can spare or be bothered to waste the time that is, and then we can see if our reputation increases.

Well I hadn’t really noticed this before, but thought maybe if you tick the ‘thumbs up’ symbol on a post, this adds to the reputation figure. So I clicked on Sylvia’s above, and it now says  You have given reputation for this post! Whether that will actually increase her number, I don’t know. Maybe I have to save this before it will change? Watch this space.
Yes, since saving the above, Sylvia’s reputation has increased by five, so she owes me! What it actually means is another matter. I guess it’s just a suggestion/confirmation that you agree with the post.  Why 5? 🤷‍♀️

There you go Tessa  ,I still can't see what  it is or what it does. Or how you see the results...
Many thanks to those who replied. It sounds as if the thumbs up is superfluous. Justin, I intend to post or reply only if I have something to say (which isn't often). I was merely curious. I doubt I'll ever post enough to get a reputation, not worried.
I've given you a thumbs up for your posting as I wasn't sure about it either.
I’ve done the same! And you Denise. Weirdly it doesn’t seem to have made any difference in this instance! Perhaps someone else will explain.

I don’t know what it actually relates to but noticed it when I first started to use the site , I have never used to thumbs up symbol. I think that  reputation is related to the postings you make , obviously the more the higher the number and it’s not linked to quality it can’t be when you see some of the rubbish I’ve posted . People who have been on the site for longer have higher numbers or as in my case I post a lot due to the Inspiration from artists thread , I post a lot , or to put it another way I always have something to say or maybe its  I’m full of hot air ( pleased don’t be unkind and agree with that).  Interesting subject maybe Dawn will  let us have the actual reason for it.
Well I just gave you a thumbs up Dixie and your number went up by five, but no idea why it seems to work on some but not all.
