Was in a very old frame, not tampered with.  Thing is, the frame is very elaborate
hmm. "Put cardboard in dark color .... back....to be drive for until tomorrow or Saturday..." ? or something like that.
Thanks Norrette. Getting closer, I think
Looks like my handwriting - old fashioned and largely illegible.... (interestingly, or not, I've been making handwriting samples today using a range of fountain pens I've bought over the years: interim conclusion: stick to Sheaffer and Parker pens; Rotring Artpen good; Jinhao skips like a mad thing and is too fat in the barrel for arthritic hands; and Lamy - just don't ask me about Lamy, that's all.  German engineering?  Pah, and I say it with venom).  I think Norette has it right, and this is a hasty note which may not have a lot to do with the painting, but probably refers to its delivery, except - is a framer going to scribble on the back of a picture?  And "color" - well, maybe they couldn't spell, but otherwise it suggests an American origin.  Where's the Scotland Yard forensic handwriting expert when you need them?
Can't help with the literary bit. Apropos of not much, I once got a Platinum fountain for Christmas. The choice back then was that or Waterman.
Thank you, Jim and Robert. Robert, I had a hunch of America too.
It's an interesting, stylized, painting, by the way - know anything about the artist?  Quite an austere piece: I like it.
Haven’t a clue about the artist Robert. No sig or anything. Have to scan over it again to make sure
Hello Martin, I read as saying 'put cardboard of dark color afterwards on back' the second line is even more of a guess 'in the drive for (???) window on Saturday ' Are they framing/collection instructions? Is the word at the top London? Is that a date 5/12/22? And a quote? Maybe! I hardly ever dot my i's and often forget to cross my t's so frankly it could say anything!! Good luck anyway- it's a nice painting!
