Even with the extra clarity offered by the new site, it's not immediately obvious what medium a picture has been created in - usually, you can tell, but there have been occasions when I couldn't: and it would be useful to know, or interesting anyway.
When you post on the Gallery, therefore - could you tell us a) the medium - watercolour, oil, pastel, or whatever, and b) the dimensions, the size?

I fully agree with you Robert - it is so frustrating not knowing the medium and I for one will try to remember to include it in the blurb. I have to admit that I'm getting used to the new site but still think there is much room for improvement. An earlier thread when the new site first went active listed a number of concerns - there was quite a list - none of which have been addressed to the site's detriment. Regretably the requirement to indicate the medium was one of them. Size has never been a requirement but I do agree that it would be helpful to know.
The main problem is that most posters probably don't look at the forum - if they do they certainly don't contribute - and I suspect that only a few of the diehards will ever comply. .

Well this was a question that I was going to put forward, so I'm glad that it's been addressed. The number of times that I ask the artist these questions, and invariably don't receive a reply. The medium is an important factor, the main factor perhaps!, The size of the work is very important also to me, it gives me a scale when I am viewing and I can imagine the painting so much better.
Digressing slightly, another problem I have is with the text box (or strip) when writing my description, why can't it open up into a box, as we are all used to. You can then see your finished text in one go and make changes, and dare hit that X and you've lost the lot. It's awful. What I do now is open up a Word document and then cut and paste it in if there is a long description.

Yes, the site could use one or two tweaks to improve the user experience, I agree with you all. It´s a shame we have to turn to word, especially since adapting the site in response to user needs is not that difficult. I used a good package of hardware/software/customer support for a site I made on behalf of an artist-friend of mine. Here´s an example of stuff to use: even most sites made with an easy user-friendly website builder will work well and still be adaptable.

I think that not all embellishments (there's a word here I can't think of,that one will have to do) to the site have been activated - I don't know what "achievements" means, either; and while there's a whole page of boxes to tick when you post a work, indicating the medium and a lot more, nothing happens with it: hence my request to add a little bit of information when posting work, because the site won't do it for us.

You are probably right Alan - there are many bits of tweaking which would improve this site no end from a users perspective all of which have been raised in the past but to no avail. Unfortunately at no time during the redesign did they ever get back to us, the users, for our comments and observations which would have helped iron out many of these issues. I would certainly have been only too pleased to participate even visiting the designers offices if necessary but alas it was not to be. As a result we have a superb site from a computers designers perspective but not very friendly especially for people like me who are not all that computer literate and there are still functions on the site which are a complete mystery to us all.
