There is an interesting artefact on the portrait of 'James' on the print version of Leisure Painter this month.  I thought it a bit odd for the artist to paint a jewel in the sitter's hair, but I checked on the digital version and it's not really there.  I'm interested in a technical sense of how this could happen. Perhaps something on the plate from another page (do they still have plates in modern printing?) I checked, no, it didn't fall out of my tiara while I was reading. :)

They do still use plates in lithography, four in actual fact, one for each colour, cyan, magenta, yellow and K for black (CMYK)… This is very strange, plates aren’t, or actually cannot be reused - I would mention it to Ingrid. She’s the editor of LP (just in case you didn’t know… ) but I’m sure you did know! A mystery indeed…
