I think Paul did the right thing in removing the comment - it did end with what seemed like an unpleasant personal attack on the artist concerned (and it wasn’t me who complained.) Yes, Norrette has strong principles, which are to be respected, but not everyone will agree with her and to suggest preventing the type of artwork to which she objected from being shown on the site is rather an over-reaction. As we’ve said before, if you don’t like an artwork, for whatever reason, just skip over it.  Making an issue of it tends to end up with people ‘taking sides’, causes bad feeling and tends to spoil everyone’s enjoyment of the site.

Sylvia Norrette changed the comment she made and the original is still in place minus the part that was personal . What I removed was the cut and pasted comment that the complainant added to there post , I then trawled back and noted that Norrette has herself edited the post and removed the comment, I therefore did not remove her original post .  It would be very sad if you decided to leave the site as you have and do contribute so much . Can I add that if it had not contained what was seen as a attack on the individual and was becoming personal  I would not have removed it . As Robert said it’s sometimes unfortunate that we have to remove someone’s  post and I don’t do so  without giving it a deal of thought and if I’m in doubt I defer to the editor.
It would be a great loss if  you left the forum Sylvia and Norette. As moderators we are sometimes between a rock and a hard place. But ultimately we are expected to to try and keep the peace. Normally it is very straight forward getting rid of hundreds of dross to buy fake passport, voodoo spells etc. But occasionally we have more tricky situations to negotiate and we do not always agree with the nature of some reports. Paul was carrying out what POL expect of its moderators so please don’t shoot the moderators!

Commenting on this situation - and I certainly don’t want it to go on and on- have I missed something? I didn’t see any personal attack , merely the issue of content. The problem with online discussions is that they tend to become more heated than they would if face to face. People make assumptions about each other…Putting in an anonymous complaint doesn’t seem right to me.
Marjorie like yourself I don’t want this to keeping going on there are many other things to talk about . It issue was a complaint was made regarding a posting made by Norrette, in posting comment were made that suggested that Eric was  manipulating the guidance and rules and would continue to do so . I after careful thought removed the posting thst the complaint post which contained a copy of of the one made Norrette , I then check back and discovered that Norrette had herself edited the comments out. I therefore did not remove her original posting as it did not contain the accusations. I did not and will not remove her views of the paintings as this is her opinion of it . I hope this has explained what it did and hopefully will end the discussion. I did not feel comfortable taking the decision but as a moderator my personal opinions don’t come into it, I have to admit that I was also concerned about the flack I would get , it doesn’t feel very comfortable and knowing it’s upset other forum members certainly is very comfortable.
I think Dixie means 'very uncomfortable' if I've read the passage correctly...? We're all of an age where we can, on times, agree to disagree without animosity. I agree with one thing, let's move on, as we did before. Life is far too short for this. Sylvia, you are 'under the weather' as far as your health goes, give it some thought and come back with your usual fighting spirit. Who else is going to treat us to such an attractive cyclist's bottom. I didn't make the complaint, either.
Thanks Carole I did mean uncomfortable.
The complainant should be ashamed of himself.
Sylvia Evans on 19/02/2023 12:49:31 'himself? So it wasn't a female then!
There is no way of knowing who it was Carole , male or female as it was put through the report system and no name was given .
Digit problem.

Paul  (Dixie) Dean on 19/02/2023 18:25:22 I doesn't matter, Dixie. It was a ploy to get, Sylvia to respond :) You're doing a great job, and I have no hesitation in saying those who post in the forum think the same. Carry on the good work, lovely boy.

No one should leave. Discussions sometimes get heated, that's a fact of life, we are all human. We are all adults and because we are lucky in having freedom of speech, we can vent our opinions but it is important not to direct them at any one individual but of course,  when we have a strong opinion this may spill out and we may vent unintentionally. Again, no one should leave. Reflect and move on from the discussion.
