Lewis I thought of The Sea Shall Not Have Them but after seeing other peoples thought I think it might be The Cruel Sea. Like your sketch Fiona but I can't think of the title, sorry!!!

Not sure about yours Fiona...there are loads of fantasy books it would fit.  I see you've made the same mistake as me...I thought everyone would get mine, and you said yours was easy to work out, we're both wrong.  A dragon and a gnome(?). I feel I ought to know it.  For now I'll plump for 'EARTHSEA' by Ursula Le Guin. I'll confirm what mine is a little later...it's not been posted for long.

Obviously I've seen Sylvia's post already so see her ideas - I would agree it is Tolkein.  I would probably go with The Lord of the Rings.   Really good sketch, Fiona.

Fiona, I think yours is The Hobbit - Smaug the dragon and the lonely mountain.  One of my favourite books as well, I love the fantasy stuff.
