A good response to the set challenge, lots of people having a go. This isn't really my thing, it's a landscape. Illustration is my first love, and I only do landscape by 'accident'. At first I wasn't moved by the set subject. So my personal brief on this pic was to make it 'threatening', something bad was about to happen at the log cabin in the woods. My thought was to make the trees threatening...didn't quite work. Maybe should have done the whole thing in monochrome and darker. So I've ended up with a picture not quite as intended...not the first time this has happened, won't be the last. This is pen and watercolour in my A3 sketchbook. Painted in little bits - because we have a lot going on at home- not my favorite way to paint, I like to crack on with it once I have the idea.
Wow! This thread has moved on at speed. Nice work, Lew, there's definitely a story in there.
Just wonderful Lewis. As Mia said, it would make a stunning illustration.
Here's my effort, better late than never. Had time this afternoon to do a quickie. Derwent black paper and a Signo gel pen.
Really like yours Carol, it's different and very effective. I'm not painting at present (trying to downsize from a house to a much smaller dwelling is challenge enough!) but am enjoying seeing how everyone has handled this subject.
Thank you, Sandra :) Changing homes is a difficult enough task without the added stress of deciding what to take or leave. Just one thought to help you on your way 'smaller home, less cleaning, more painting' lets hope it won't be too long before you get cracking on the latter. Health and happiness for the new year.
Well I finished mine at last and did it my way! Oh heck I sound like Frank Sinatra lol. I used coloured pencils on Pastelmat which I love working on even though the pencils go down rather quickly. Although the subject didn't appeal to me at first it was a chance to try out a snow scene. I think a snow plough has been and cleared the snow from the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, Lesley :) gouache is also a good medium to use on it. Just go back from town, bought some, white sennelier abstract acrylic (comes in a pouch) to have a try at calligraphy with a chisel edged brush on the black paper. No harm in trying. You've brought out the delicate nature of both products that enhance this beautiful scene, Margaret. Lovely work.

Carol, thank-you so much for your kind thought. Indeed it will be less cleaning and more painting (and other nice things). Margaret I love your snow scene, beautiful soft light.
Loving seeing all your versions of a snowy log cabin! I knew you'd all rise to the challenge!
Lovely Paintings, both very effective, Sylvia.
Both lovely paintings Sylvia.
