Thanks Alan , they seem very determined this morning .
Some forums ask a question on the registration form, is it possible to ask a perfectly simple question, one that would thwart the bots?
I’ve just zapped around 60 at least, something really does need looking at urgently, otherwise the forum will be unusable! There’s Captha (spelling!) installed to keep out the Bots, these are presumably humans signing in and posting hundreds of the same rubbish with a single click…
Could POL change the registration process so that you have to write a bio and be approved by admin/moderator before you can post. If registration was more time consuming (not so much that genuine people are put off), maybe the nonsense people would be put off bothering. I agree with the suggestion of a small fee to join, also.
Problem here with a fee or bio etc, is that we often get asked for information on paintings that people have either found in their loft or purchased - these are one off events and non-artists usually. This is just one example. We don’t want to deter these sort of threads which I know both myself and Robert find interesting… plus so do other members of course! But something has to be done I agree, it’s just what or how!
The other down side of a requiring a bio is that a lot of professional artists register to enter TALP  but don’t necessarily want to publicise themselves on this site. Just look at the TALP entrants this year, most of them have empty galleries and empty bios.  If the suggestion of a registration fee is unacceptable that leaves you with:  - Captcha for every post  - unwieldy but effective at slowing things down and eliminating bots. - Black list IP addresses and email addresses - a service that presumably costs money - Some form of AI that recognises repeated postings and eliminates them - there are packages out there - Recruit  lots more administrators with the power to play whack-a-mole with the posts
I would be happy to help I wouldn’t be  on all day long but  I can make a point of checking in a bit more often and zapping . I was on late yesterday and there was nothing but bots and couldn’t do anything

I’ll see what Dawn says Gillian… I’ll be speaking with her tomorrow!
That’s sorted Gillian, welcome to the team! You should now have moderator privileges when you log in. It’s simple enough, remove the post and ban the poster, that’s one button, then click delete the thread…
