Beginning to come to the conclusion that the Daily Sketch should just be allowed to fizzle out quietly.  Don't think there is an alternative way of doing it.  I had thought of putting stuff on a Blog but that doesn't work.  I know there isn't a marker on what should be posted on the gallery I just didn't want to post too much as pages moving too quickly and multiple posting had been a big issue for a while.
There is a Work in Progress section on the Forum.  Perhaps there could be a Weekly Sketching one so the thing doesn't become too unwieldy.  I agree that posting on the gallery would not work, but I think it's good to be encouraged to sketch and have a bit of interaction on that basis.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the daily sketch since 1 January and I intended to do it myself so Margaret’s challenge was just what I wanted. I certainly feel it’s benefitted my general drawing skills and observation, and the fact that others are doing it regularly has encouraged me to keep going. I would certainly miss it if it finished. Dawn’s monthly challenges are also good as they only require one offering per month, though obviously you could do more. Maybe anyone thinking up a challenge, could be asked to pass it to Dawn initially rather than just set it up themselves. I do find that recently I’ve spent more time looking at the Forum than the Gallery, whereas it used to be the other way round. Is that a problem? Not for me, and I don’t have to take up any challenge I’m not keen on, any more than I feel obliged to join a discussion on aspects or techniques that I have no real knowledge about.
I haven't been here long, but have read through many of the older posts (going back years).  What is a bit confusing, is that the main Forum page shows the 'latest' five posts, but doesn't indicate which category they are from. As an example, I posted last week a question in the Acrylics category, about cleaning brushes, and one of the replies asked what medium I was referring to.  Then (also on the main Forum page) there's 'Popular' posts, which is almost identical to the 'Latest' section above it. After that it just shows one post from each section (Oil, Watercolour, etc) Perhaps the sections / categories themselves could be tweaked a little so that there isn't multiple duplication, and older posts than the top active five could be more visible? Also, if anyone can tell me how (on an ipad) I can 'like' a picture in the gallery, I'd appreciate it! 😁
Hi Helen I use an iPad and all you need to do is to click on the heart/like symbol which appears after any comments and on the left hand side.
I to have enjoyed and still enjoying the Daily Sketching challenge although sometimes life gets in the way, but its something to aim for and as Tessa says it also has improved my sketching. I would be sad to see it disappear.
If you’re enthusiastic about your art and progressing it further, you should be drawing most days anyway, irrespective of any challenges! I fill around one A4 Daler sketchbook every 6 weeks or so, not finished or finely honed drawings, but bits and pieces of anything that catches my eye.  Anything in fact, that may come in useful at a later date, which most of it doesn’t, but that’s irrelevant. I don’t post, or rarely post, any of these on POL, it’s simply for my personal satisfaction. It’s sometimes good to share your stuff with other artists, I do agree, but it’s not a necessity unless you’re after critique!

I've enjoyed both reading, and laterly, joining in with the monthly sketches. It has encouraged me to sketch more, even when very busy. I will keep sketching and trying to improve, so it has achieved what I hoped it would for me personally, but I won't post any more. I know others enjoyed it too, otherwise it wouldn't have been popular. Still, we are all different, which is a good thing. Thank you Margaret for starting them in the first place.
I anticipate that one of the daily sketching challenges will continue, it’s looking that way. Nothing wrong with that at all, the point that several of us were making, is that we were in danger of being inundated with them - that’s all! My point in general from my earlier comment, is that we shouldn’t have to rely on set structures or challenges to motivate us, it should be part of our routine, but I also accept that many of you are finding it helpful and possibly motivational - that’s great! I’m all for that!
I had agreed with Alan’s earlier comment about the number of challenges on the forum at the moment, but wasn’t thinking of the daily sketch challenge, but more about a couple of other challenges which had been started (and which now seem to have petered out anyway) which seemed to rather conflict with those Dawn was setting for us.  As so many people are enjoying the daily sketch challenge it would seem a shame to stop it.

Absolutely Jenny, no issues at all with Margaret’s daily challenges. That one, coupled with Dawn’s monthly challenge is a good blend.
Hi all.  I am fairly new to this site and the Forum.  I love the Forum.  I had been searching for a site where there was more interaction between artists and their works and was so happy that I found this forum and the different categories one could join in and just have fun.  The Daily sketch is fantastic.  The art is great and the chatter super.  It feels like I am actually chatting with you all.  I prefer coming here than going to the Gallerythough every time I go to the gallery and look and enjoy painting, I want to add in the comment I make on a piece that they should come and join in the fun here. So please, from a newbie, do not change or stop anything.
