Why spoil an otherwise fantastic website with those ridiculous floating adverts that seem to cover the thumbnails in the Gallery. Even as I scroll down new ads pop up, covering more. Doesn't happen every time, but when it does, it's persistent. While I understand the need to raise revenue, the gallery is about the artwork. Please don't cover it up with ads. It's bad enough that the thumbnails keep moving as you scroll down the page.
Quite right! It’s revenue Ron… not forgetting that the gallery is a free site for us all - emphasis on free! I’ve not personally found them a particular distraction!
Alan, I’m very much aware of that however this is more of a technical issue where the “floating” part is the problem. The ad sits over a row of thumbnails and then stops. As I scroll down numerous floating ads appear and do the same, until there is 4 or 5 on the page rather one which remains at the bottom. Once the page is refreshed the numerous ads sit behind the thumbnails. I’ve found over the years that a website being ‘free’ is often used as an excuse for poor maintenance & testing. I’m sure that’s not how PoL perceive their work.
I see Ron, to be honest, I’m not getting the same thing as you, just a static advert occasionally! I can see why this could be a problem… I’m working with Mac, and I’ve got Mcafee software installed!

I use an iPad and have never seen any floating ads in the gallery, so was surprised to read Ron’s comments.
Ron, like Alan I don’t have this problem and I’ve been using Safari on iPad, Microsoft Edge on Windows and the default browser on  an Android phone. Perhaps it’s the browser you are using?  Have you tried alternate browsers? I know Chrome , Firefox and IE can give different results on the same page.
Unfortunately it's not a platform or browser issue, that I am aware of, as I am using MacOS with Safari (latest). Perhaps the screenshots below may give the dev team a clue. My own thoughts are that when the Ad moves down the page (when scrolling) it doesn't delete the previous one. Consequently, when the page refreshes the thumbnails are refreshed over the old Ad boxes. My background is in software testing and I've seen this many times before when a page is only partially refreshed to speed it up.
Ron I can see why your so frustrated with it , like the others who answered your question I only have a static advert bar. I know nothing about how these things work, it’s all electronic magic to me so unfortunately I can’t make any suggestions as to how to resolve the issue, hope it sorted out for you soon .
I’m using an iPhone, a MacBook Air and also an iMac, which also uses Mac OS with Safari. Never had an issue with any of them! Definitely not aware of any floating ads…
Oh that's awful Ron.   I use an iPad and don't get anything like that.     This site was ad free for many years then the option to pay for it or to have ads was mooted...ads were chosen.  I see them but nothing like you do.   I does this happen on any other site you view ?
Have just caught this thread and have to say it never happens to me. Have just checked the Gallery before posting this, no ads. I wonder whether this is ad block doing what it's meant to? Windows 11 and Chrome on my desktop. I did see some ads when I checked the Gallery on my android tablet.
Sorry I missed this thread. Now it's been spotted the technicians are looking into it but as far as we can tell no one else is experiencing this problem. Let me know if you are though.
