Thanks to my eternal vigilance  - or in other words, a sharp attack of sciatica which woke me up at 4am, so I got up and made a pot of tea, and had a look here just in case - you have all been spared a spammer offering "fake pounds"; now - what on earth is the use of fake pounds?  How many would you have to purchase to make them worthwhile, leaving aside the possibility of arrest and durance vile?   Anyway, all gone now - and I will say in the poster's favour that he only lumbered us with two of them: if only others were so restrained - but if anyone can explain to me how it can be worth anyone's while - eg, how much does it pay? - to make such totally unappealing invitations on other people's websites, I would be, if not grateful, perhaps a little wiser.

Yes, thanks for your efforts on our behalf Robert...and the other pest removal operatives as well.  These posts beggar belief, you'd think they'd be snowed under by the police, but they seem to get away with it.  About the only legit use for fake money that I can think of is for movie-makers.  I'm sure that isn't the reason these nerks post this stuff.

Hiya , I really think that Dawn needs to give the admin team the ability to remove gallery items. We’ve now got two (questionable) adverts now on the front page. I also don’t understand why , if admin can delete a user, that their gallery entries aren’t deleted  at the same time; seems like an easy thing to do?

I’m on the case guys! I’ve spotted them and have written to Dawn to flag this issue up. Yes, the team which includes myself need to be able to remove these advertisements from the gallery. Dawn isn’t back until Tuesday so leave it with me…

Lucian: to the extent I manage the sciatica at all, it's by the use of a TENS machine, and dihydrocodeine; plus getting out of bed if it strikes there, and making the aforementioned tea.  Having a badly damaged back, though - it's something I have to live with. Alan et al: the Gallery has rarely been a problem before - it MAY be easy to give moderators the permission to remove items from it, that would depend (I suppose: in some ignorance!) how the site is configured.  But given Christmas is a bumper time of year for spammers (as is Easter), we can expect further attacks on both forum and Gallery - so I agree such a power would be good, if t'were possible to grant it.

I’ve just heard back from Dawn, and it isn’t possible to allow access to the gallery posts. (It’s not necessary for me to elaborate on the reasons). It isn’t a great issue for us, there aren’t many and Dawn will deal with them during her working week! She has removed the two offending posts…
