Thanks Paul. Yes Robert, I did notice a problem with the nose so I started to reshape it but didn't get finished because of the light. As I was painting, the nose seamed to get longer, when I stepped back, I could see it wasn't right. I will have to keep a close eye on it as the shape is unfinished. It will be Wednesday now before I can get back to it.
This is how far I got on the face before the light went. There is still much to do. I've got to round that socket off on the left eye. I didn't get time to touch the lips and I haven't got the nose shape yet. I only started working on the eyes as the light started going, so, still much to do there. I think I will be quite a few days on the face. Any comments on progress, good or bad, I will be happy to know. Thanks.

It is time to smooth the gradation, the contrast between bright and shadow need to reduce. As this is your first trial, you may try push the paint by clean dry brush. Try it, you will find it is interesting.

I will be trying this tomorrow Kenneth, when I get back to it. I'm looking forward to getting stuck into it again.
I've been working on this since 9 this morning, it's gone cloudy and I can't see so I will continue tomorrow. I've been trying the blending with a dry brush, it has soften the edges but not a technique I've done before but I am happy with the effect. It will take some time and experience to get use to it but something I will now use. I'm not to sure what to think of it so far. Here is were I'm up to anyway.
I've not finished the face yet.
Well I think it’s starting to look really good Denise and really well painted, the eye are so full of life. I know you haven’t finished the face yet , but the mouth is starting to look good , that’s an area I always find so difficult. Well done your doing a great job of it.
Really good progress Denise!  I have to admit I tried this one in pastels, but it was a bit of a disaster.
The important thing here is that you're making this your own painting, and not just a look-alike copy (not that copying is a bad thing: it can be very educational).  It's not 100% anatomically accurate, but then neither was Modigliani - or El Greco - and it's coming on very well.   How wise you are not to work in poor light, as well - a lesson for us all there: I've often carried on, trying to finish something, when I should really have put the brushes down for the night.
It's looking great, Denise.
Thanks everyone, it gives me encouragement that things are coming along OK. I know it's not perfect, I think if I spend the next year practicing, I will get much better. I am enjoying doing this, just wish I had the experience to do a better job of it. I think it will take another day or two to finish. I'm enjoying it and learning a lot.
Denise your doing fine , and all the learning is building up to get you to the standard you want to achieve, like all the rest of your work it takes time to developed your ability, you know that , bur it is frustrating when you see what you want but need a bit more time .
