Mmmmm yes Julie…lol
Here's An image from a series I did back in 2020
Trust me here, I do have an image of a hand, mine to be exact, but I also have a ton of sketchbooks, and it's in one of them: I wish I knew which one; will post if I can find it, but suspect Skylar's will outclass it.
MJust to start the challenge off , some studies of hands and feet .
Paul  (Dixie) Dean on 01/07/2025 18:09:28
I've been studying the picture the whole time, do I see anything distorted? The entire body is drawn from behind (legs, butt, back), but the head and hands are from the front? Great studies, Paul!
Tanja we see it differently, the thumbs indicate that the hands are from the back, the left hand is up in the air with the hand curved . If it was on from the front the thumbs would be on the opposite side of the hand , the left uppermost. The head is tiller to the left , I really can’t see it in the same way as you do ,  be very interesting to see what others make of it . I’m always fascinated how we all see things slightly different, like patterns in the clouds etc .
Now I've quickly added the hair from behind, and the back shoulder blades (for me so I can see it) and yes, now I see it "correctly":) Thanks for the explanation:)
If i can put my four penneth in, as an ex ballet dancer. This study is correct. It's from behind and the arms are in third position . The head tilted  towards the straighter arm extension.  I presume you used a photo reference Paul or else you have a very good eye for ballet technique. I presumed you did for the pointe shoes because unless you've danced on point you would have no idea of how point shoes are fastened and they were done correctly, very good study of point shoes though, and the dancer
Thank you Tanja and Julie. I was hoping you would comment Julie given your ballet background , the original sketch was done quite a while ago, when I went to pick up my youngest daughter from her ballet class . I asked the teacher if I could do a rough outline sketch of her in one of the ballet positions, this is how she posed for quite a while. I did think of developing it into a painting but never followed through. About three weeks later my daughter decided that she no longer wanted to continue ballet, short term fad that lasts a year or two .
It's a very good drawing if done from life. Im glad you didn't mind my interference,  but as an ex dancer I just had to. As to your daughters ballet fad, many a daughter does the same. Mine saw how hard life is as a dancer so never wanted to dance at all. She spent to many hours waiting for me or being dragged about from studio to studio. It would make a good painting,  but I think the pointe shoes would be a lovely painting.  I was so impressed with that picture. Both are good Paul
It looks as if no-one has done your other subject so far Paul, and "Heat" is so different from arms and legs that I wonder if there should have been separate threads. Anyway, Heat suited me for a sort of abstract landscape. .
Like this a lot Sandra.
Had forgotten about the ‘heat’ part of this month’s challenge.  Sandra’s landscape really does  look hot!  An oldie from me.
