Just hung out a pile of washing and looked at the very mixed sky.  Will it won’t it rain on my smalls. Anyhow I thought about Dennis ( never know which one,and it wasn’t the smalls that made me think about him) . It’s the Dennis who paints wonderful skies...now I’m sure we all know him for those ,I don’t know if he paints anything else.. Do you have a regular subject ?  I know in a months time I will be sitting in the woods doing yet another bluebell painting, and the seeds of this years sunflowers are already planted ... I do paint other stuff but those two things always draw me in...what about you? Sorry about the pun..unintentional.

My 'smalls' have got bigger over the years - think Tessie O'Shea's bloomers and you'd be about right. Tearing myself away from this subject - my 'go to' is probably trees, with cliffs as a secondary.  I've often tried to break away from these, but am always tempted back to them.  It's not too surprising - where I live, trees, cliffs - and sea - feature rather prominently.
Yes you are right Robert it’s often environment .  My smalls have got smaller over the last two years... Na na .
Noses for me.  On the way home from the paper shop this morning, I passed an old boy with a nose that would shelter a small family from the rain.  (Sorry, had to get 'small' in somehow.)  It's faces for me...always.  When I sit and aimlessly doodle...it's faces.
It has been for some years landscape for me, trees in particular, but I have been trying to do more figure work recently. It goes back to my thread on how where you live affects what you paint. When I take the dog out in the morning I’m constantly noting possible views and subjects for painting.
Had a horrid day yesterday ...clutch went on my car at the traffic lights and I was stuck in a pile of traffic...AA came out to rescue me and take my car to garage ...all this happening and trying to control new doggo .  Find myself sitting in AA van looking at an old Welsh chapel with a pollarded tree in front of me ...wonderful shapes.  Of course sketch book in broken down car.  These things are meant to try us...but yes , the arty eye sees stuff all over the place .
Oh no Sylvia, ouch,  clutches can be pricey! But it made me smile to think that even sitting in the AA Van you noticed the chapel and tree. I’m sure it’s still in your head for later. Hope you get the car sorted soon.
I’m always on the look out for old farms and barns, they always help to add a little focal point to my landscapes. There’s plenty around still if you search for them, my O/S map sends me down some lovely one-horse lanes, these isolated places are prime candidates!
I love old buildings Alan I wish I had time to explore local lanes  we have some great Welsh long houses .
I try my hand at most things , but always fall back on , old vehicles,  trees  and old buildings. Thinking about it and looking at my reply, I just like painting old things the most. Interesting thread as most of the answers so far I would have guessed at for the people posting.
Yes Sylvia, I thought about your part of the world when I wrote my comment. You have an abundance of wonderful stone farms and cottages etc, full of that all important character! Not a straight line to be seen anywhere.
That reminds me of the wonderful Kyffin Williams lovely paintings.
