I did this in 20 mins en plein air yesterday, 1/2 “ brush and few colours, then had to go elsewhere. Today, indoors, because it’s heavy rain. I don’t think you’ll be able to work out what the scene is like. Hopefully, soon, it might make sense.
No, I can’t quite see what’s coming next, but I do like the lively brush strokes, and the colour!
I’m glad you like it Alan - gives me hope! Last week I did a pen and ink of the same view ( garish colours I’ll admit) but will use it as an aide memoire. Will also push the building further left.

A little secluded building… nicely positioned and I do actually rather like this pen and wash version!
A bit more, then pause for a glass of vino ( sorry Alan!)
Oh yes, shaping up now for sure… No convert in the still life scenario, I’m working on stuff for the magazine, so I’ve not got any choice! Have a large one for me Marjorie!

I like this composition; I wouldn't have said the colours in your study were garish - we're into Summer now, from Spring, but Spring colours can be startlingly green (where I live, anyway): just probably not actually yellow - a trap into which I tripped with my last one, which I'm still contemplating altering somewhat (in response to Alan's suggestion, in fact).  I sort of don't want to - and sort of do: I live in Castle Indecision.... Which I suspect you don't, Marjorie, so I'm looking forward to your development of this one: that clump of tree/bush on the right is going to be very important to this painting, even if you break it up as you have with your watercolour study, and you'll be wanting to keep your vigorous brush-strokes going.
I really like the way you have approached this and shown the different angles which you are coming from with this painting. Very interesting, Marjorie. I love watching a WIP. Looks like it's beginning to take shape.
Thanks, both!
A bit more but need to add some purples and blues. Flag irises by the pond in front of our art club.
Nicely worked out with a rather lovely palette… and some good solid deep tones in all the right places!
