I like this composition; I wouldn't have said the colours in your study were garish - we're into Summer now, from Spring, but Spring colours can be startlingly green (where I live, anyway): just probably not actually yellow - a trap into which I tripped with my last one, which I'm still contemplating altering somewhat (in response to Alan's suggestion, in fact). I sort of don't want to - and sort of do: I live in Castle Indecision....
Which I suspect you don't, Marjorie, so I'm looking forward to your development of this one: that clump of tree/bush on the right is going to be very important to this painting, even if you break it up as you have with your watercolour study, and you'll be wanting to keep your vigorous brush-strokes going.
