For what it's worth - I struggle with watercolour, but get lucky sometimes - I like your painting David: and refer you to a watercolour by H H Brabazon - not everyone appreciated it, but it had the same quality of immediacy. I think I might have shared it here before, but finding things isn't easy on any website. The painting is titled Approaching Storm, I think - I'll try to find it so you can compare. I'm not going to pretend that yours is as good, but you've not done this before, and you've got 'something' - that indefinable thing.
Yours is not the work which will get you into the Royal Academy next week, but having a go at different things is what this game is all about. Stronger tones in foreground areas would have helped; but then, sitting under a tree dropping spiky things on our heads might have put any of us off.......

Anderson42 .... I sort of like it, but it didn't really challenge anyone's technical expertise, did it....? My local hospital has an impressive art collection - I helped them to catalogue it for insurance purposes - much of it donated by the artists, some bought through bequests and grants. There's a large Maggie Hambling there, which I like a lot, but others have adopted the 'whatever's that supposed to be?' approach; which is daft, because it's not 'supposed to be' anything, other than what it is. Hospitals can be dangerous places for art, though - a friend of mine, and a very fine artist indeed (Anne Toms: worth looking her up) painted several murals, one of which was ruined by dowelling inserted into the wall to hold up shelves - I imagine the work shrieked in pain while they were at it.
I'd donate one of mine, but the swine haven't asked.....

sorry folks, I still haven't mastered how to insert a quote! I wanted to put in Dbz "the result I feel was terrible....." No, not at all, as Robert says, the point is to have a go and maybe keep creeping up on it. I wasn't enamoured of my recent attempt tho' I certainly had an idea in mind. Bravo to all those who tried the challenge! Sylvia had other things which got in the way - as did I, but painting in this way is often spontaneous, you are reacting to something which inspires you, so let's all not feel too self critical if it hasn't come up to our self imposed standards - it's an on-going process. Here endeth the lesson. P.S. I will post another attempt, promise!

I've been away, just got back yesterday and catching up on POL today. I see this challenge was a while ago but may try tomorrow in my painting group, I had to think of something to paint and Marjorie has given me an idea. Whether it turns out well enough to put on the Gallery is another matter though! At least an emotion can lend itself to abstraction.

At last I have picked up some paints to have a go at your challenge----Acrylic paints sits in the drawer waiting to be unleashed, today I decided this was going to be the day ....Way out of my comfort zone. after thinking a lot about what to do with them I put some colour on paper and had a very messy hour. Acrylics now tucked away in their own little drawer waiting for me to have another manic moment... which with any luck will not be for a while

Nice to have time to have a go at the challenge, Marjorie. Watching Henry Li, Chinese ink painting on youtube, I came across one with him and a Prof, Zhou Xueyu, finger painting, inspired I had a go at this afternoon, it was quite an experience scratching and dabbing about in ink and watercolour with my finger and nail, but fun. I will be a long time till I'm up to this gentleman's masterful standard.
Thanks for the challenge :)
