I visited my sister in St Cloud near Paris over Christmas and on the wall she has this picture. It's about 2m x 1.5m in size, painted on canvas. I don't know the artist and I don't want to but I don't think it was cheap. My sister thinks it's wonderful. I showed it to a friend from the Melton art group today and she liked it too. I think it's inept! If I'd painted it I wouldn't show anyone or bring it out in daylight. What do you think?  I'm going to be away for a couple of days now and when I get back on Saturday morning I'll ve very interested to read your comments. Peter

I will be very honest Peter....I usually am...I think it's bloody awful.
Good! That's two of us!! Peter
My six year old granddaughter can do much better than that . Should be in the Louvre , sorry I’m dyslexic it should read  the loo  or behind the wall . Blood awful to quote Sylvia . So that’s three.
Well it has a certain charm.......  he said; bravely..... No: it's inept, badly painted, junk. There's some stuff on the Gallery today which quite honestly shouldn't be there: I'm not going to single it out, but if you can't draw, LEARN.  If you can't paint. study painting.  Don't try to pass rubbish off under pretentious descriptions.  None of us minds genuine first-time work - we can all produce rubbish, too!  But don't try to pass off your uneducated efforts as art - for your own sake, as much as anyone else's.   The one thing I could say about your sister's painting is that it has a knowing expression - not everyone can achieve that - and the proportions of the figure, so far as they're shown, are broadly correct.  But it's still the painting of one who just didn't care = there is some ability there: but it's sloppily applied, by a lazy painter.
I have to say, I quite like it. Then you know me, I like all types of art. I've looked at it again and I think it's pleasant.
Mmmm Denise, you might be outnumbered on this one.   My astonished thought is..."she sold it ! ".  Please Peter don't show her these comments... something about in the eye of the beholder.  Yes Robert I know the efforts you have commented about.

I think you are right Sylvia.
Well maybe I am a bit weird but I agree with Robert, the figure against the background has a certain charm.  The lettering across the front, however, just looks appalling.
The lady looks malnourished, judging by her arms, (maybe she doesn’t eat… just smokes cigars), but her cleavage is in need of some support… I don’t like it, but each to their own,,.. Just look at all the trash that sells for millions out there. Someone likes it enough to pay money for it.
This reminded me of Audrey Hepburn, maybe the delicateness of the figure? The words painted on the picture 'ti amo' I love you. Could this be a departing or returning friend or a lover? The portrayal of a boat and plane could suggest this.   Who knows!  I too think it has charm.
I couldn't think what it reminded me of but I think you could be spot on Carol.
