Is anyone else noticing something wrong with the daily message that comes through late afternoon? It used to update me on posts that day, but for the last few days it seems to have gone mad and is sending me posts and comments from people I’m following covering about three days, most of which I’ve already seen.

It’s obviously going well then! If you go to My Account and then Communication Preferences you can choose to have an email each day, normally around 5pm to avoid missing any new work or comments by artists you have chosen to ‘follow’ Or who I think follow you. This includes comments on your own work.
Interesting to know who is actually using it at this stage, and thinks the system is any good!? I think like most systems it comes down to ‘swings and roundabouts’, and will never suit all.

As a long time member I must admit that I have been neglecting visits to the site where I have so many dear long time friends . Hi to all of you! I have been back in touch lately, but now at 88 (no excuses or moaning, just a plain fact of life...) I do find that Brain fog creeps in and that technology is moving much faster than I can keep up with. ( I know I am not alone in this) But I am still very keen and painting. Life has been a roller coaster for the last 5 years since a nasty road accident which left me with recurring PTSD , confined to the house , unable to go out anywhere unless someone comes to take me, and very lame. Also I was due to have my cataract operation (both eyes now not good) when the Covid virus disrupted our lives. Hey ho! That's Life and it is also a great experience. Age actually is interesting, somehow freeing, and molehills no longer feel like mountains. Two more years and hopefully I will be 90. Whoopee!
I have also become fascinated by Negative Painting and am a member of Linda Kemp's group on Facebook. Which brings me to a question I want to ask because I have been wondering whether it would be helpful to have a Forum section for that subject on POL? I wonder what other people think and would love to know how widespread this form of looking at painting, which is observing and portraying the space around objects, and working in layers, rather than portraying an object directly separate from its background first. (Hope that is a sufficiently clear explanation?) How many POL members work or have worked in this way? wOULD APPRECIATE KNOWING. iT'S NOT EASY

Hi Ruth, I’m not sure if this is what you refer to, but observing the negative space and relating the object to their surroundings is how I was taught to draw at college. Probably not what you are actually referring to I suspect!
It’s something that I still do automatically, all these many years later. I work on the object and background as one entity almost, rather than looking at them as separate items.
I’m not sure what you mean about using layers in drawing, I generally paint in layers but that’s a totally different thing.

Oh look at this, the lovely Ruth Dolan .
Good to see you here Ruth.
So sorry about your I’ll health I know age is a right bugger but you acerbated it with your accident.
I don’t know much about negative painting though I do look at negative shapes when I am drawing but don’t consciously use them.
A friend of mine years ago when we did our life drawing used to do all her work using negative shapes . She made some wonderful drawings....Helen Job, have you ever come across her ? Seeing we are almost the same neck of the woods .
Layering drawings, I am assuming working forward and building up shapes...if not , then you have lost me.
Some of us golden oldies are still here Robert insists that he is ,but you can give him a few years( so can I) .
So lovely to hear from you .

Lovely friend Sylvia...Hello again. I have posted a few times lately but not too often. ( You will know about Fibromyalgia, that's my real bugbear, and it flares up any time without any warning.) Great to have a reply from you. Sore eyes prohibit too much screen work/viewing, but I really do want to get back into harness while I can. .
You are pretty well correct about the Neg. Painting. The layering refers to layered colours as you move from front to back.
Very glad to hear that dear Robert is still with us. Linda Kemp (Facebook Neg. Painting Addicted group has asked me to look into how she could put a Q&A Forum on that site. Dawn has said that she is happy to let us use the POL Forum, but I don't know how many of her group (She is a lovely Canadian artist whose group NPA is.) might also be members of POL. Hope all this makes sense to you!!! I am thinking that Robert as Moderator might have some advice. Hope you are as well as can be. take care. x

Which in turn Fiona commented on and told me to look up your idea for a thread regarding Negative Painting with Linda on here. Such a good idea Ruth and I hope that you have your cataracts removed very soon so that you can get the most out of painting in the future.
