I think I’ve got the hang of the new system, but when I looked just now, of the last five messages most were posted two or even three days ago. I expected a flurry of messages on it but all that’s appeared so far is what I would have received by email previously. I realise it provides a facility for personal direct messages to be sent artist to artist, but has anyone used it for that? Apart from keeping messages in one place I can’t really see the benefit. What do you think? Am I missing something?
No, you're not.  Please, please, please POL reinstate emails telling us and giving us the link when someone comments on our work and just leave the new facility for personal direct messages artist to artist.   I think many people will be missing the comments on their work as they slip through the net this way as not everyone will be looking at their account details on a regular basis.
I actually prefer the new system for notifying when someone has posted a comment on our work - you can see as soon as you log in whether or not there are comments waiting to be read - I use an iPad and it shows on the bar at the bottom of the screen.  For those of us who don’t log into email very often it’s useful.  Although you don’t get an email notification straight away like we used to, the new system does email you (at the end of the day I believe) to let you know if any comments haven’t been read, so none will be overlooked.

Thanks Heather. I thought I read somewhere that you could still have the email notification but I’m. certainly not getting them. Sorry Jenny, missed yours, yes swings and roundabouts I think. I’m always logged in to email so that’s not a problem for me and I also use an iPad so have the same symbol ready to go. I’m not saying I don’t like the new system. I think it has pros and cons as most new things do, and just wondered what others think of it.

I quite like this new system, for me its better than emails, you know if you get any messages on the menu bar at the bottom, what I havn't received is the end of the day email, but that might be my fault.
I’m not to sure about it yet. I did use it to contact a couple of people mostly as a test of the system. I suppose I will get used to it in time, I think for me part of the problem is I’m not a very good with  technology and find changes a bit intimidating at times. Ah well plod on as they say.
I was not aware there is a new system but then I don't think I used the 'old' system! is the 'new' system linked to the Studio carry on?
I do love you lot and your various comments, especially Peter’s! 😂 It’s part of what makes the Forum such fun. I forget that some people don’t check email every five minutes and aren’t surgically attached to their mobiles like the ‘young ‘uns’.  It’s only a few years ago since I retired from a job where I would have been pinned to the wall and shot if I didn’t read my emails at least hourly. I guess it’s a habit still somewhere in the few grey cells I have left! Linda, you may have to go into ‘My account’ and then click on the messaging symbol, then find preferences and you can choose what to receive including the daily email which I think is at the end.
I don't have an ipad but I do check emails frequently so I guess we're all different.   So, please POL can we keep both emails and the new approach ... that way we're all happy?!
Good point Heather, at least have the choice.
I have to say, I still get emails when someone posts a comment on any of my (very infrequent) gallery submissions so I'm assuming that hasn't changed. I have been aware that the new messaging system lets you know when someone you are following posts a gallery submission. I would probably prefer to have comments notified via the messaging system, rather than email as, like you Tessa, I don't check email that often now that I don't have to. Not sure what the 'end of day' message is, but will be sure to check the preferences shortly. I spent years in software development, but just can't be bothered with it now that I don't earn my crust from it any longer.
Lucky you - I'm not getting emails, only receiving comments via clicking on 'my account' ... seems very random POL?
