Possible why it became popular in the first place Tessa , given thar the times when art deco was originally around .
More from the era... Erte - illustrator, dress and stage designer. Gerda Wegener from 1932. Another modern artist who says he's inspired by the art deco period.  Alaine Levesque, Canadian artist. So thinking about this style, whilst there are several famous artists where I admire SOME of their work, it's mostly the posters I really like.  And of course, the cars, trains, planes, dress, architecture and the golden age of jazz (which took place during all this).  Like Peregrine Heathcote, I'd have liked to have lived in that time...with the proviso I had the money to enjoy it.  Much of it still around to enjoy.  I went to a vintage car meet with my son last Sunday, I drooled over a few cars from the 1930's, while my son, born 1970, drooled over cars from the 1980/90s...like the Scimitar and the Stag.  Horses for courses, I suppose.  As with all art, I like the best of most genres...my best, most likely, being different to yours.

I love the Art Deco era, so stylish.  I particularly like the Midnight Zephr 2000 painting by Michael Kungl.  Here’s another of his.

Just 'googled' Peregrine Heathcote and have become an instant admirer of his work.
He even has an Art Deco sort of name!
Straight out of PG Wodehouse!  Inspired by this thread I've dug out a couple of old pictures of Colleen Moore and Mae West and I've given them a more Art Deco style background based on this picture: I haven't added the back lines but maybe I should. If anyone else has pictures in this style to share do post them.

Peter, this style with blocks of colour as a background does occur quite often in Art Deco.  Here are a few I've found, I don't have much info on them as they come from sites just showing the painting. I googled the Cavallazi name (on the bottom pic) and nothing like this came up.  The same with the 'de linto' signature on the first one. Oddly it's one of the styles that appealed to me.  I've done a quick little 6 x 4 inch pic to see if I want to pursue this idea...my pic below...I will do a normal size painting in this style, but some changes are needed.... I like your paintings.
Lew I looked further into these. Suonatrice di liuto is the title of the painting. It means the lute player. Still no idea who the artist is. PS like the blue cat!

I think they're great though I wouldn't want to copy the style of the faces. Your picture looks very promising Lew. I like the silent era films and their stars; I've got a picture I did of Laurel and Hardy but I'm not sure the background would work so well with them!
Yes Tessa, I didn't pick up on the translation, all that came up was the same painting, no artist's name. Here's what puzzles me about Deco.  Look at these pics.  All Art Deco apparently.  To me they could be different styles.  The two on the left are my idea of Deco, the next two a touch of cubism(?), and the last a realist painting.  I'm assuming they were just inspired by what was happening in the Deco era.  Doesn't matter, just a little confusing.
I see what you mean Lew. I love the second one. I wonder how that style came about in the first place, so dramatic and different.
The Suonatrice di Luto painting is by the Italian artist Antonio Diego Voci, but his work seems to cover a lot of different styles.  This is another of his.
