Episode 3
I thought Libby Fellingham's knife work was superior in every respect, and I was amazed when she didn't win. Some of the finished pieces left me baffled.
The winner's painting was good but nothing to write home about, at least it didn't do much for me, emotionally speaking. Libby's really hit the mark, though.
But! Who am I

Just watched it, and I also agree that the art teacher's expressive portrait, coupled with his submission, was a worthy winner. I did however really like the lady who used the painting knife throughout, although she didn't make the top three. Probably didn't have that completed look, more of a rapid preliminary sketch.
I'm always disappointed when I see artist's using pictures from their phones to work from. Absolutely not what I would want to see or expect in a competition. Quite a few adopted this method of working this week. Tessa has summed that one up nicely with her statement!

Yip! Totally agree with this weeks winning choice, and as Alan said I thought the lady with the knife was very good indeed. Perhaps her early finish put the judges off, because she claimed she didn't want to spoil the work by overworking it, even though there was clearly room for a nudge here and there. It looked like, and sounded like, she couldn't be bothered. However, I'm also of a mind that she was edited to look a bit cocky. One of her comments to the sitter sounded very abrupt, yet I fancy the rest of her reply was carefully removed. I hope I'm wrong.
Just my impression.
