Hello all, does anyone know where we could buy large cardboard boxes/wooden crates for shipping large paintings please? I need a box that's 135cm x 100cm in size and can't seem to find anything suitable when Googling. Wondering where fellow artists get boxes for large paintings? Thanks so much!

You’ll find that galleries will have crates specifically made to size when shipping large items, but they won’t be cheap!
In the past, I’ve always kept the rigid cardboard case that the stretched canvas came in, I’m talking 1000x1200mm canvases, then reused this packing.
There’s a company that I buy cardboard art boxes from, but I’m not sure how big they go up to. I can’t recall the name, but I’ll check through some invoices and come back to you shortly.
It came to me... Defendapack.
They’re very reliable and good quality.

I was looking for the same earlier this year. I found a company online who were selling what they termed art boxes. They were in two sizes and both were—if I remember right—about 6 inches deep. If you've already searched then you've probably come across these and decided, as did I, that they weren't quite right. Also the minimum order was six I think. I called a couple of local companies from Yell but got no leads at all. I figured if I could get the raw material I could make something myself, so spent three days searching for and visiting all the cardboard box makers within my locality (surprisingly more than I would have thought), but with no success—and with very little help or advice; with one exception, not at all interested. My solution was to give up but if you do find a better one I'd be very interested.

I just checked and what ho! I bookmarked the company. Shows how good my memory is too. They're called mirror and painting boxes not art boxes. They're available in three sizes, the largest of which is 1240x1040 (at 150 deep). The company is UK Packaging at ukpackaging.com (and it's five min not six).

I've bought from UK Packaging before but somehow managed to overlook this product! Though their largest size is still not big enough for this painting I'm shipping (which is 1.2m at its longest and I will need to account for padding) this is still a good source to bear in mind. Thank you for this - so helpful. By the way, I've found the quality of products from this company to be pretty solid (though delivery times were slower than advertised but unsure if it's due to Covid and all that). Would recommend.
