I've decided during the rest of the summer, I will take the odd opportunity to search around the local scrappies. Car and metal. Don't laugh, I fancy doing my own garden sculpture. Do I know anything about it. No, not really. I want something quite big, I'm going to bolt it together. I'm thinking of doing a Buffalo or cow in some bulrush. I'm 5 foot 2, so in height, I'm not planning on anything bigger than 5 foot in height. Not sure about length yet. I've not done any sketches yet but I will, so I can get some idea of parts, I might need to look for. It will all be ad hoc and worked on at the end of summer once I've accumulated some scrap. Painting is my main love, so it will be something I do when I have a spare hour or need a relaxation. I recently visited a wood reclamation place and put together my own patio table because I couldn't find one I liked. It's the same with garden decoration. I can't find anything I like so I'm going to attemp my own. I will tell you, this art stuff has a lot to answer for. I would have been happy with any old tat but now it has to be tat of my own design. Do you run before you can walk sometimes.

Well you certainly do like a challenge Denise and I’m sure you will succeed! Looking forward to seeing what you produce, could be a whole new career for you. There’s a gallery not far from here with a guy who makes animal sculptures from car parts etc, especially nuts and bolts and smaller parts, and they are amazing. Can’t think of his name but they sell for mega bucks.
Go for it!

That’s an enormous challenge Denise, not something I’d be comfortable trying, I wouldn’t be any good at it, but you’re more adventurous… and younger!
Good luck with it anyway, it will take time, lots of time I expect.
Most of these metal sculptures are joined together by the MIG welding process… I can see you taking a crash course in welding before too long!
I expect that to build up the shapes, you’ll need to be able to cut up smaller sections of metal, that’s a tricky task in itself!
