Yes I agree Alan - two awful examples and the rainbow needs to be kept low key but the landscape should be wet and sparkling in the sunlight. Still not found anything and currently on a farm in Derbyshire with little time to paint or search the net but I will keep looking when I get a few moments.

It could be an interesting topic for one of the monthly challenges, I'm sure it would put us all out of our comfort zone but would be interesting, as it must be one of the most difficult illusions to paint. I think I would have great difficulty, painting one but I am interested to find out why they are so difficult, so I will try some time. Not anytime soon though, I think. Then again, you never know.

In the real failures, it always seems to be the blue and the yellow that wrecks the attempt - by the way, I don't think the Salisbury Cathedral painting is "drab", Michael.... not exactly fairy lights twinkling on the glistening dew, I grant: but dark (possibly darker than when originally painted) as opposed to dismal.
