Val I’m so pleased that you used it , I put them on for everyone to use or use bit of them. I quite proud that it inspired you enough to want to do a pastel of it , please do put it on the gallery. I’m tempted to load some more photos now.

Thanks Paul and thanks for the extra photos you posted which are lovely. More inspiration for me!
Better late than never Paul. I had a go today but it’s not up to much. Started in watercolour but it was so lacklustre I added some oil pastel and dry pastel. I think I’ll try again….
Those colours are superb Marjorie.
Marjorie, you're doing yourself down - getting those fabulous colours in watercolour was asking a lot of yourself, but your zhooshing it up with pastel  has worked well.  The only criticism I would make, if pushed - not that you HAVE pushed! - is that your tree is bang in the centre of the picture - a slight shift to the left might help.  I like this a lot though, particularly the way you've resisted our usual temptation to paint the tree trunk in a solid brown: the variegated colour you've used is just right, and I can recognize this as a beech tree: it has the characteristic shape and colour, you've observed it well.   I wouldn't have offered even the small crit I did offer, but you did say you're thinking of having another crack at it: maybe my suggestion will help: if it doesn't, though - it wasn't me!   All your fault!
Just compared Marjorie's painting with Val Kenyon's version, earlier in the thread - very different; Val's is peaceful and serene; Marjorie's is exciting; both are excellent interpretations. I'm glad this thread has resurfaced, too, because it's so difficult for me to get out and about, the bus service out here being sparse, shall we say, and my being unable to drive:  I think I shall pinch one of Paul's photos and have a go: I had forgotten they were here - I'm not keen on using others' photos, but on the other hand, a choice would be a fine thing: I've painted rather a lot of Niton Undercliff - it's beautiful, but not the whole world - or the whole island.  (I would advertise for someone to take me for car rides, but you never know these days - a maiden lady hoping to hear the belated clang of wedding bells might respond, and then where should we be, eh?)
But Robert. you could gain a patron...
Among other things....
